Functional Landscaping

My mom is pretty brilliant. She was talking about how she would like to plant zucchini and summer squash seeds in place of landscaping this year. Andrew and I have been tearing out the previous landscaping little by little. We replaced one area with ornamental grasses, but the other area was empty. We are working toward being debt-free, so we didn't want to spend any more on landscaping this year. So, I ventured out to the good ol' Walmart & purchased two packs of seeds for around $2.

We planted them. Andrew watered them. They quickly started to grow!

We now have beautiful plants in our landscaping...

... that actually serve a purpose! This is the first veggie Andrew picked from the plants. We were able to pick three more tonight. We've already made our money back.

So, great idea, Mom! Now... if only you had done it yourself! I think we should probably do this again next year!
